Irrational Fears
- Lucy Tran
“Fear is a natural, powerful, and primitive human emotion.”
How one would experience fears differs from person to person. I want to express how these fears feel like to me on a personal level. To achieve this, I explored the concept of some of the most common phobias by incorporating 2D (paintings) and 3D (sculptures) elements on the same canvas to invoke the feeling of dread and uncanniness that comes with a lot of irrational fears. I chose red as a one of the prominent color schemes to present its meaning of violence, anger, aggression, and a sign of warning for danger.
Ever since I was young, I've always been a scaredy-cat that was afraid of everything and anything around me. Interestingly, while working on this project, I found myself reflecting more about my experiences with those emotions, and discovered how greatly it probes my artistic vision and fuels inspirations.

Illuminating Legends
- Mariana Rodriguez
Stories are a pivotal part of human nature. They teach us where we came from and the lessons learned can guide us forward. While many stories are well known I want to turn the spotlight onto different cultures filled with all new legends to share and study.
Growing up as a Latina in Canada there has always been a very obvious physical disconnect between my culture and me. Learning about the stories and legends that are so important to my culture helps bring me closer to my ancestors.
The reason I chose this story is because it was one of the first that I learned and so holds a special place in my heart. In addition the quetzal in all its legends shows traits of compassion, courage and grace traits that I wish to embody in my everyday life as well.

Happy
- Barbod Jafarinejad
I believe it’s impossible to make everyone happy. No matter what decision you make, it will make someone mad and through our life there are so many decisions to make. Some of us are always trying to make everyone happy and most of the time we fail. I did an Interactive Animation because I believe the best way of learning something is to experience that thing. In my animation you need to make some choices and each choice has it own consequences. There are many characters in my animation. I used a secondary coloor for every character but the one who makes the choices is you, because I believe you are the most Important person in your life. I think using primary and secondary colours is a good way to show the most important person.

30 Bucks
- Sean Anderson
Often in life people have to make sacrifices just to get through it and sometimes that sacrifice is either barely enough or not enough. You might have to work multiple low-paying jobs just to feed your family, sell off valuable belongings or just stop doing things you enjoy just to save money. Doing so can take a toll on your mental and physical health just to get by in life. For how low the minimum wage is in today's age and now gas prices rising, this is a scary reality for many people. My project is a literal depiction of ''Giving up an arm and a leg'' in the form of a clay sculpture. It shows someone's last resort to offer up their arm for some money just to get by in life, but in the end, all they get in return is 30 bucks.

Unfinished, At Best
-Spencer Kuongo
Any creative process comes with a plethora of characteristics: an individual facing the external guidelines, peer pressures, and the condition of being finite in both craft and body.
Part of it comes with the logistics of your process: attempting to conform to your client's guidelines and criteria. The other is trying to balance that with your own creative will, succinct enough for productivity to flow.
For this project, I wanted to explore my creative process one more time without these restrictions.
In hindsight, this project is a critique on my own process, and despite being wordless; it sums it up in spirit and volume. Major influences of this project include bands like Sonic Youth, Swans, Chris Riemer, The Brave Little Abacus, Neurosis, Duster, and Tim Hecker, to name a few.
With these external influences mixed with emotional developments in my life make my project, "Unfinished, At Best", flow out of the speakers.

Lights out, Mask off
- Jeevan Sidhu
Lights out, Mask off. I created this piece because I wanted to bring awareness to men's mental health as I have personally struggled with depression. I used a cartoon style for my character “Pedro” to make the piece appear visually light-hearted and appealing while having the meaning be heavy and quite dark. This concept is similarly used by the artist Philip Guston. I used the medium of paint markers as I hate using paint but I love using markers. The experience was quite rewarding and I will continue to use it and encourage others to do so as well. Finally, I want to say to anyone who is reading this that if you are struggling with mental health problems you are not alone and that you should reach out to someone. You are stronger than you think.

Is This Really Art?
- Hanson Ke
In the pursuit of higher efficiency and more accurate artistic views, I have also achieved innovation and developed my own ideas. And so this piece was born. " You Call This Art? " It is a true two-sided painting that I have created. The modern artwork is an effort to turn the illegal money into legal money. Money laundering though artworks is very normal to see in daily life. It's basic method is to buy high-valued artwork to further disguise the origins of illegally obtained funds: a process called layering. In the whole painting, I adopted an abstract way to express the whole process of money laundering.

Shattered Dreams
- Cassidy Chan
This is an Illustration book that revolves around the themes of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Survivor's Guilt. The story is told from the main protagonist's perspective as she and her group of friends go on a mission to confront her monstrous manifestations, associated with her past trauma and ongoing grief.
Heavily inspired by my experiences where a group of friends and I partook in a student-led movement turned radical ‘revolution’ 3 years ago, which led to the death of my 5 friends while I was studying abroad. It left me with a lot of traumatic memories and I wanted to express my inner thoughts and demons through very rough illustrations, reflecting on my mental state
Just a quick note, I am only sharing my own experiences and representing myself. My story is one of many.
Materials: illustration book; pencil drawing cutouts on a black paged sketchbook
Slices of Adventure
- Kenzo Ribeiro
Manga is a format that I enjoy a lot especially when pages make you stare at them and just feel it. I value images that tell a story as much as the story, so I decided to approach this new media with an adventurous mind: figure out the technical aspects as I go and discover new things about something I'm familiar with.
Materials: ink, pen, paper
The Dream Game!
-Grant Johnson
I would like to say I was inspired by a lot of Western illustrators from all around Canada and the U.S. I'd go home and I would open up my sketchbook and draw my original characters and make their own little background stories. This story is about a teenage boy or girl who is thinking of how he should help the citizens of Canada with their nightmare problems. The girl starts the Dream Club and the main character hunt down Canada’s worst bad guys in their nightmares.
Here is a 4 page scenario of the main character in her life. I came up with the project because I grew up with a lot of anime t.v. shows like Dragonball Z and Pokemon. Those were my childhood t.v. shows but soon as I heard that my class was going to have an art exhibition, I immediately thought I wanted to make a western manga style drawing for my project.
